A Message from Principal Richard Fournier:

Open the doors to Fourteenth Street School and you will find a school committed to carrying out the Bangor School Department's mission of "Academic Excellence for all Students."

Fourteenth Street School is one of five Bangor elementary schools and one of three located on the West Side of the city.  Each grade level is composed of two classrooms and, since 2005, our school has offered a 4-year old / Pre-K program with morning and afternoon sessions five days per week. Space in this program is limited with a registration process beginning in March.

Special education programming has expanded in recent years to complement 14th Street Student Artwork Imagesupport and intervention services provided through Title I, including Reading Recovery and literacy groups across the grade levels with and emphasis on kindergarten literacy.   All students participate in regular physical education, art (bi-weekly), and music classes. The smallest of the elementary schools, Fourteenth Street School blends with students from Downeast School and Vine Street School in grade four at the Fairmount School, with which Fourteenth Street shares an expansive green space that connects the two buildings in many ways.

The teaching staff provides the students with the best teaching practices and specialized instruction to ensure that every student meets the learning standards set by the State of Maine and the federal guidelines of 'No Child Left Behind'. Our primary focus remains building with students and families a strong academic foundation and a sense of connection to school that will enable them to flourish after they leave our doors.

A strong influence on the success of our students is the support provided by families and by the Fourteenth Street School PTO, who come together regularly to bring enrichment activities and school-wide events that give special meaning to the first years of school,  strengthen learning,  and solidify the home-school connection.
