Bangor High School

A Message from Principal Paul Butler

Among the largest high schools in Maine, Bangor High School is a comprehensive secondary institution serving approximately 1,300 students in grades nine through twelve.  Our shared vision, as outlined in the Bangor School Department High School Statement of Purpose, is to encourage academic excellence by providing each student the opportunity to realize his or her potential.  Academic excellence is defined as the creation of a challenging educational environment wherein all students can aspire to higher intellectual levels.

A rigorous, diversified curriculum is offered to students of all ability levels by an experienced, committed and talented faculty that seeks to instill in each individual pupil a love for learning and a desire to continue his or her education beyond high school. Students are offered an extensive selection of courses in every department, and are encouraged and guided to elect an appropriately challenging program of studies.

Extensive extra and co-curricular offerings afford each student exciting opportunities to actively explore and develop individual strengths, interests and talents in a wide range of areas. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in activities and programs of personal choice so that, throughout high school, they will continue to realize their potential for success both in and outside of the classroom.

Bangor High School students have a history of distinguishing themselves as outstanding academic, athletic, and community leaders. Bangor High School is the state leader in the number of National Merit Semifinalists, and our Advanced Placement Program has yielded achievement  consistently above state and national levels as well as dozens of AP Scholars. As a school-community, we take great pride in the noteworthy accomplishments of our students and look forward every year to their continued growth and development.
