Bangor Alternative Education

A program within Bangor Adult and Community Education (Tel. 992-5523)

The mission of the Bangor Alternative Education program is to maximize learning and increase success for "at risk" students at Bangor High School. Programming involves academics, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and study skills. Classes are taught at an alternate time but take place in the D Wing at Bangor High School. The goal of the Alternative Education program is to provide students with the skills to enable them to successfully return to the regular Bangor High School program within two years.

The Bangor Alternative Education program employs five teachers and offers courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, art and computer skills. Students are able to take up to five classes at the alternative education site. Freshman and sophomore students attend each day from 9:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Juniors and seniors attend each day from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Students are able to supplement their schedule by taking classes at Bangor High School or at United Technologies Center.

Alternative education students follow the Bangor High School curriculum. They are expected to take all local and state assessments and must meet the Bangor High School requirements for graduation.

Students must go through an application process to be considered for admission into the alternative education program. Applications can be obtained from the guidance office. For more information about the Bangor Alternative Education program, please call 992-5523.
