After School Programming

Bangor schools offer a variety of co-curricular, extracurricular, and athletic activities across the schools with the belief that student involvement after school enhances the academic program. Since the 2006-2007 school year and as part of Federal Safe & Drug Free Schools planning, the schools have engaged in a concentrated effort to expand the number and types of activities offered as well as the number of students who participate in an after school activity at some point during the school year.  The result of these efforts was the identification of over 100 school-based activities made available to students across the schools.

At the early elementary level, after school programming is generally more limited in scope and duration, with academic or recreational activities taking place one or two days per week over a two or three week period.  These offerings change frequently and often fall in line with academic programming and intervention / enrichment needs and opportunities.

Programming expands at the intermediate (4-5) level, with year-long and semester-long activities.  Daily homework labs, academic clubs, student council, and other special interest clubs complement chorus, school musical, and selected intramural sports at the Fairmount and Mary Snow Schools. The middle and high school levels bring extended opportunities for athletic team participation along with multiple and varied opportunities for students to be engaged meaningfully after school.

Program Coordination

At the elementary level, each Pre-K to 5 school employs an after school coordinator responsible for the organization and communication of program offerings throughout the school year.  At the middle level, athletic directors and activities coordinators oversee after school offerings.  Questions regarding each school's program may be directed to the following individuals:
