Apprentice Research Program

The Apprentice Research Program has been in existence for the past 14 years at Bangor High School. Students choose to participate after consultation and approval by the Science Department Head. The criteria for participation, expectations, and evaluation are established in this Apprentice Mentorship Program overview.

The success of the Apprentice Research Program is the foundation of the new BHS STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Academy which will begin operating in the fall of 2012. Our goal is to provide the apprenticed research mentorship experience to more Bangor High School students. Click the following link for specific information on the BHS STEM Academy.

Bangor High School students involved in the Apprentice Research Program have presented at the New England and the National Junior Science Symposium as well as the National Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition, the most prestigious youth award for a water-related science project.  BHS graduate Rebecca Ye was named National SJWP winner at a ceremony in St. Louis in June, 2010.

The award recognizes projects that demonstrate a unique passion for education and awareness of sustainable water management.
