Silk Road Web Site Guidelines


General Requirements (50 points) For full credit in this category, presentations must:
•meet all deadlines;
•contain a minimum of 12 slides plus title page, bibliography and photo credits;
•contain a map of the region discussed in the presentation;
•include a reading guide of 10-20 questions designed to aid middle school-level readers gather information from the presentation;
•be of a quality of content and design acceptable for public viewing.


Content Requirements (50 points) For full credit in this category, presentations must:
•have a logical sequence and have a strong narrative structure written in language appropriate for middle-school level readers;
•be free of grammatical and spelling errors;
•demonstrate an understanding of the origins of the idea/technology;
•demonstrate an understanding of the transmission of the idea/technology across the Silk Road (the mechanics of how the Silk Road worked);
•demonstrate an understanding of the historical period discussed.


Design Requirements (50 points) For full credit in this category, presentations must:
•exhibit balanced and thoughtful use of whitespace, images, backgrounds and transitions;
•be laid out with a clear plan that avoids unnecessary complexity;
•combine text and images to effective build and support the narrative;
•be constructed with the user's goals and needs in mind (user-friendly);
•be of excellent design and construction quality; be attractive and appealing.


Research Requirements (50 points) For full credit in this category, groups must;
•submit 10 library logs per group member;
•utilize opportunities for collaboration in the group and with the instructor including in-class work sessions, email communication, inventory lists and tasks lists;
•use at least five types of evidence in the research;
•employ a wide range of sources and source types;
•properly document text and image sources using appropriate bibliographic forms.
