US News & World Report and the respected American Institutes for Research (AIR) have established BHS in the top 10% of over 19,400 schools in the 2014 publication America’s Best High Schools, earning BHS a second consecutive National Silver Award.
According to the U.S. News & World Report online publication, AIR bases its research “on the key principles that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that is must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes.”
Under the AIR research, only schools that produce student achievement that exceeds statistical expectations on the SAT qualify for further study of the degree to which their students participate in college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. High achievement on both measures showed BHS is “successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.”
The Washington Post recently identified BHS as Number 5 among Maine’s Most Challenging High Schools, which evaluates the level of AP Exam participation within the school’s most recent graduating class.
