Bangor High School’s Team A won the Maine Regional Science Bowl, held at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on February 28, 2015.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl® is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science (biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, and energy) and mathematics. Teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format. Each team is comprised of four students, one alternate, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach.
Bangor’s Team A members include junior Tyler DeFroscia, junior Isaac Robinson, senior Hannah Rubin, junior Conor Thompson, and senior/team captain Andrew Ye. The team’s coach is Cary James, BHS science department head.
Bangor’s team earned an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Science Bowl, held in Washington, D.C. from April 30 to May 4, where they will face 120 middle school and high school teams from across the nation.
