On May 16, 2015, the Innovation Center at the University of Maine held their annual Maine State Invention Convention, hosting over 100 participants from throughout the state. Bangor’s James F. Doughty School was proud to send 15 incredible inventors to pitch their invention ideas.
Eighth Grader Isabella Varisco walked away with the top Grade 8 prize for her HydroGuard, a mouth guard that detects if an athlete is dehydrated by changing color based on their mouth’s chemistry. She was also selected as the over all winner at the 2015 Maine State Invention Convention.
Another Doughty student, Luke Caruso, won the People’s Choice Award for his Ball-Sole-Hard basketball shoe protector. This invention protects basketball shoes from the harsh outdoor elements and also protects the basketball courts.
Congratulations Isabella and Luke!
