The BHS Science Bowl Team won the 2016 Maine Regional High School Science Bowl held at USM on Saturday, February 28, a feat they also accomplished in 2015. Team coach Cary James led a veteran squad composed of seniors Tyler DeFroscia, Isaac Robinson, Paige Brown and Conor Thompson and sophomore David Rubin. The BHS Science Bowl is undefeated in its previous 16 competitions and now prepares for an all-expenses paid trip to the national competition in Washington, D.C. this May.
Team coach Cary James stated, “I’ve attended every Maine regional science bowl competition in the last 25 years, and this was the most dominant science bowl team in Maine history.”
Since 1991, the National Science Bowl® (NSB) is a highly competitive science education and academic event among teams of high school and middle school students who compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. Each team is composed of four students, one alternate student, and a coach. Regional and national events encourage student involvement in math and science activities of importance to the Department of Energy and the Nation.
