The University of Maine Museum of Art‘s Spotlight Gallery proudly presents, “Selections from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy, Bangor High School.”
Selected works from students enrolled in BHS’ Visual and Performing Arts Academy will be on display beginning Tuesday, October 11 through January 2017 at UMMA, 40 Harlow Street, Bangor.
Eric Hutchins, BHS Visual and Performing Arts Co-Chair, explained the selection process for the juried show: “Any Visual and Performing Arts Academy or art honors student was eligible to submit a work. The submitted works were on display at BHS, and VPA students gave feedback which narrowed the field from 50+ works to 14. Then feedback from BHS staff members narrowed the works to the top 6, which were chosen for this exhibition.”

Students, staff, parents, and guests attended the opening reception on Tuesday, October 11. Monty Rand’s daughter Holly was a featured artist. “I’m a photographer, and for my daughter to have an interest in photography and to be featured in the UMaine Museum of Art is really an honor,” he said. Jada Robinson, whose digital print, “Patriot,” is featured, said, “It means a lot to be featured here. I’m excited and proud of my fellow students at BHS.”
