In the spirit of the giving season, the Bangor School Department has begun its annual food drive! Each year, the school department holds a food drive and monetary fund drive to assist Bangor families in need. The drive will end on the last day before winter break, December 22nd. On this day, all students and staff are asked to wear Bangor colors, cardinal red and white, in celebration of our wonderful community.
This year, in addition to food donations, we will collect monetary donations in order to increase the number of food backpack packages provided to Bangor students. Currently, we have 100 food packages placed into students’ backpacks to help with meals over the weekend. For $225 we would be able to add an additional backpack food package for the entire year (including the summer months). We know we could use more backpacks and if each school were to raise at least $225, we would have 10 more to add.
To donate, please drop off non-perishable food donations at any school or the school department office in City Hall. Monetary donations in the form of a check should be made out to the City of Bangor with a notation of “food backpack program.”
