Reopening Plans Update – August 20, 2020
Bangor School Department faculty, staff, and administration have been hard at work to complete the details for the opening of school. Schedules and class lists will be sent to families in the next few days.
Next week faculty and staff have Teacher Academy Days, which are full of trainings including racial, equity and justice training, social emotional equity learning training, reopening plan protocols and set up, block scheduling training, and numerous mandatory trainings required each year. Given all that is required of employees to prepare for the start, the Bangor School Committee approved a revised calendar attached to this alert.
START of SCHOOL SCHEDULE: On the first two days of school, September 1st and 2nd, there will be a two-hour delay. Bangor High will start at 10 a.m., the middle schools will start at 10:30 a.m., and the elementary schools will begin at 11 a.m. There will be no a.m. PreK on these days and no p.m. PreK on September 1st. The first day for a.m. PreK is September 3rd. September 3rd will be a normal start and a normal day! Remote students will start their remote program on September 1st with a two hour delay timeframe.
By having a two hour delay, faculty and staff will review all protocols and be able to train students of the new procedures. Approximately, ½ of students will come on September 1st and the other ½ on September 2nd. Schedules would be determined on these days by grade level for those students attending in person and in the hybrid model. Remote students would not be at school.

Please know we realize this adds more changes for parents and students in the first two days. However, the faculty, staff, and administration need this extra time to prepare and to make sure all students have adequate training in the new protocols and procedures. We thank you for your support and patience.
Bangor faculty and staff have missed the students and look forward to working with them over this school year. Enjoy next week and stay well.
