Clarification and Update – 9.15.20
Good Evening,
We have had a few questions on face shields and out of state travel, so I wanted to clarify for everyone.
Face Shields
All adults and students are required to wear a face mask/face covering that covers their nose and mouth. All students riding on the school bus must wear masks/face coverings. Face shields may be an alternative for those students with medical, behavioral, or other challenges who are unable to wear masks/face coverings. Medical documentation is required. Face shields worn in place of a face covering must cover the eyes, nose, and mouth, and extend below the chin and back to the ears. Face coverings/masks with exhalation valves are NOT allowed. These have been shown to cause a concentrated stream of aerosols that may contain even more viral particles. Gaiters are also not allowed.
Travel
According to the Maine CDC, individuals traveling to exempt states (currently NH, VT, NY, CT and NJ) do not need to be tested or quarantine upon returning to Maine. However, individuals traveling to non-exempt states, such as Massachusetts, do need to be tested for COVID-19 (and receive a negative result) or quarantine for 14 days upon returning to Maine. Individuals are required to self report travel outside of the state.
Bangor High School Athletics Update
The BHS Athletics Planning Committee has met and reviewed a draft plan, which meets the state guidelines. Currently, medical professionals we often consult with are reviewing the plan and providing their feedback. Thursday night, the plan will be presented for School Committee approval.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Betsy M. Webb, Ed.D.
