Good evening. This is Kathy Harris-Smedberg, Interim Superintendent for the Bangor Schools, reaching out to you again. My apologies for calling so late and for the multiple calls.
The Downeast School should have been included in the list of schools. Due to the amount of time that has passed, the small number of people impacted, and having no school for over 72 hours, students and staff who are not a confirmed case or close contact may return to school on Monday, Nov. 30.
If you or your child are identified as having been potentially exposed, you will receive an email this evening and, if needed, a Bangor nurse or representative will contact you by noon tomorrow. All close contacts will need to quarantine by staying at home. You will need to monitor for symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, or a temperature higher than 100.4°F, and practice physical distancing for 14 days from your last contact. If you are not contacted, you do not need to start a quarantine routine and may return to school on Monday, Nov. 30.
Students needing meals may order them by calling the school and then picking them up at Bangor Tire, Bolling Drive, or Holiday Park.
Please stay safe.
Good night.
Kathy Harris-Smedberg, Ph.D.
