Good afternoon, this is Kathy Harris-Smedberg, Interim Superintendent of the Bangor School Department.
I am reaching out to let you know that one or more people at William S. Cohen School have been tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, as the virus was contracted over the break, there are NO close contacts within the school, and students and staff are able to continue their normal learning pathways. I repeat, there are no close contacts.
Please continue to contact the administration or school nurse if you or your child test positive or have been in contact with a confirmed case. Please also practice all safety procedures.
If you traveled out of state or the country, you are mandated to complete a ten (10) day quarantine upon your arrival home in Maine or get a negative COVID-19 antigen or molecular (PCR, NAAT, or isothermal) test collected no more than 72 hours before arriving in Maine to forgo the 10-day quarantine upon arrival in Maine. An antibody test is not accepted to forgo quarantine for visitors and those returning to Maine. You can get more information at: https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/infectious-disease/epi/airborne/coronavirus/travel.shtml
Stay safe and be well.
