This year, in lieu of a parade, the Bangor High School JROTC will host a Memorial Day Service at the Bangor Waterfront flagpole near the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion. Lt. Colonel Lyon said that the Battalion was very concerned about everyone’s safety when attending the event and did not originally plan to do anything for Memorial Day. However, with the recent changes in COVID-19 protocols, the City issued a permit to allow an event rather than a parade. It is important to remember those who gave their lives for their country and community. By remembering them, we honor them and live up to President John F. Kennedy’s quote – “A nation reveals itself not only by the people it produces, but also by the people it honors, the people it remembers.”
The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. and include music, a flag ceremony, guest speakers, a wreath laying ceremony, and a 21 gun salute.
All are invited to attend. Please be respectful of all current COVID-19 guidelines during this event.
