In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Bangor School Department (BSD) does not comment on the specifics of student conduct cases. The information that we were able to share in regard to the incident in question from reporters occurred on October 16, 2022 between two male students during morning arrival.
School Safety is one of the main priorities of the Bangor School Department. Administrators follow school policy and procedures to involve the Bangor Police Department when a case of assault has occurred in one of our schools. Affected families are offered support and information regarding their rights to pursue legal action. Incidents that may be racially motivated are investigated by the affirmative action officer. BSD staff receive training on a yearly basis and are trained to de-escalate and redirect students to safety.
The Bangor School Department uses the I Love U Guys Foundation Standard Response Protocol in their emergency response plan and are in the process of launching Centegix, a rapid incident response program, in all city schools. Once fully implemented, staff in all schools will be able to call for help with the click of a button. “The ability to communicate and respond quickly in times of emergency is key to our safety mission. We are proud to be the first school in the Northeast to offer this communication tool to protect our students,” said James Tager, Superintendent of the Bangor School Department. The Centegix system will be fully implemented the first week of January, 2023.
