Dear Staff, Families, and Community Members,
Thank you all for your feedback on our need for the temporary reorganization of our Fairmount School for the 2026-2027 school year. It is clear that the schools in the Bangor School Department have always been more than just buildings; they truly are the heart of the Bangor School community.
We know this news brings a mix of emotions—uncertainty, sadness, and perhaps concern about the changes ahead. Please know that while this decision to propose a temporary reorganization plan may seem sudden, it was not reached lightly. A temporary reorganization is a necessary step so we can properly assess upgrades and complete the recommended work. Communication will continue as we identify needs and determine next steps.
As we move forward, our commitment to you is transparency and compassion. A webpage has been created to keep everyone informed and as a repository for all information regarding this process. The video shared includes the ideas that have been discussed, thus far. The accompanying survey requests your feedback on those ideas and to offer any of your own suggestions. The survey will close on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 7PM to allow us time to review the suggestions and incorporate your feedback into the presentation to the school committee.
The goal of the listening sessions scheduled for May 18, 2026 are to communicate additional details about whichever proposal is approved by our school committee on May 13, 2026.
Change is never easy, especially when it involves the people and places we love. We understand that this transition will be a journey for all of us. While the "how" of our daily routines may change, the "why" remains the same: we are here for our students. Thank you for your resilience and dedication.
