Fruit Street students brought the energy for our annual Move-A-Thon. They raced through an obstacle course, jumping, zig-zagging, and cheering each other on every step of the way! Thanks to the incredible support from our families and community, our runners helped raise money for our school’s PTO, supporting programs and experiences that make our school so special. And of course, after all that hard work… it was time to cool down with popsicles! #WeAreBangor

Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers Needed!

The Bangor School Department invites students, families, staff, and community members to become Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers. Students plant and care for our school gardens during the school year, but we need community support during the critical summer growing months to help the gardens thrive. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children alike to spend time outdoors, connect with nature, learn about gardening and pollinators, harvest fresh produce, and help maintain vibrant outdoor learning spaces for students to return to in the fall.

Summer volunteers commit to caring for a school garden for a one-week interval (or more!) between June 22 and August 30. Volunteers are asked to visit the garden at least twice during their selected week(s) to help with watering and weeding. Some gardens may also offer produce to harvest and enjoy at home.

No prior gardening experience or volunteer training is required. Interested volunteers can sign up using the link below, where you will also find contact information for each School Garden Coordinator who can answer questions and provide additional guidance for each school garden.

What happens when a school yard becomes a living classroom? In this episode of Beyond the Bell, Dr. Marie Robinson and Sara Luciano welcome members of the Bangor School Garden Network to explore why school gardens matter and what’s growing across the Bangor School Department. Together, they discuss how gardens go far beyond vegetables—creating meaningful connection to nature, strengthening belonging and teamwork, and helping students build curiosity, persistence, and confidence.

Fruit Street's own Mrs. Libby teamed up with students from Mrs. Quinn’s class to create some Monster Magic with Mrs. Martin’s English and Mrs. Wagner’s Ceramics classes at Bangor High School. Ceramics students created clay creatures based on drawings from younger students, while the English class provided imaginative storytelling. Everyone came together to share their finished monsters and tales in the BHS Library during a special showcase.

A huge thanks to the teachers for making cross-class creativity possible, and congratulations to all the students for their curiosity, teamwork, and storytelling! #WeAreBangor
