Dr. Marie Robinson

The Bangor School Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marie Robinson as the new Superintendent of the Bangor School Department, effective July 1, 2024.

Dr. Robinson is an innovative, progressive and dedicated leader with over 25 years of experience. The majority of Marie's career has been spent in the Philadelphia area, where she taught elementary and middle school for 15 years, before shifting out of the classroom to serve as an instructional coach and later a building principal.

Marie and her family moved to Maine in 2016 when she accepted the PK-12 building principal position at RSU 89, Katahdin Schools. In 2019, she was named the district's superintendent and earned her Ph.D. in Education in 2021 with a focus on Learning, Instruction and Innovation. During her tenure at Katahdin Schools, she has supported innovative efforts to enhance the public school experience by expanding pathways for high school students, integrating elementary curriculum, and utilizing the outdoors as a strategy to deepen learning and support mental health. Dr. Robinson is also one of the founding members of a non-profit organization, called The Katahdin Children and Families Foundation. Created from the district's strategic plan, KCFF serves children and families in the region and is a fiscal partner to the district. Katahdin schools has been recognized the past three years by U.S. News & World Report. Achieving a 100% graduation rate in three of the last six years and increasing attendance by 5% just last year, Katahdin Middle High School was named #3 in the state of Maine in 2024.

"After a comprehensive search process, the committee was impressed by Dr. Robinson's proven track record of academic excellence, innovative thinking, and commitment to supporting the success of all students. We look forward to the new ideas and energy she will bring to our district."

Hassanien also expressed gratitude for the dedicated service of outgoing Superintendent James Tager, who is retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year after 3 years with the district. "On behalf of the Bangor School Committee and our entire community, I want to thank Superintendent Tager for his steadfast leadership and unwavering dedication to the students and families of Bangor," said Hassanien.

I look forward to collaborating with the School Committee, administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families to continue advancing educational outcomes and supporting the growth and development of every child."
