In conjunction with the Maine Department of Education, students in Ms. LeRoy's AP Human Geography piloted the Seal of Climate Literacy. 14 students submitted their experiential project for the Seal of Climate Literacy. As part of the pilot program, they received the Seal of Climate Literacy medallion from the Maine DOE. Students focused on composting, countering fast fashion, developing community gardens, sustainable heating sources in Maine, and forest research on tree species due to climate change. #WeAreBangor

Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers Needed!
The Bangor School Department invites students, families, staff, and community members to become Bangor School Garden Summer Volunteers. Students plant and care for our school gardens during the school year, but we need community support during the critical summer growing months to help the gardens thrive. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children alike to spend time outdoors, connect with nature, learn about gardening and pollinators, harvest fresh produce, and help maintain vibrant outdoor learning spaces for students to return to in the fall.
Summer volunteers commit to caring for a school garden for a one-week interval (or more!) between June 22 and August 30. Volunteers are asked to visit the garden at least twice during their selected week(s) to help with watering and weeding. Some gardens may also offer produce to harvest and enjoy at home.
No prior gardening experience or volunteer training is required. Interested volunteers can sign up using the link below, where you will also find contact information for each School Garden Coordinator who can answer questions and provide additional guidance for each school garden.
