Each day students at Bangor Schools can arrive early to eat an excellent breakfast with which to start their day.  We also participate in breakfast after the bell.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is sponsored by the USDA and is offered at 4 of our qualifying schools.  Fairmount, Downeast, Abe Lincoln and Vine Street Schools offer fruit and/or vegetables during snack time on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  JF Doughty School offers fruit and/or vegetables during Physical Education class.

Part-Time Food Services Assistant Openings Available

High school diploma or equivalent required.  Ability/willingness to learn/participate in food preparation inventory and ordering or other assigned work related duties.  Ability to perform or learn the following:  a. follow standardized recipes, b. adjust recipes for desired yield  c. use food buying guide.  Ability to work independently without direct supervision.  State of Maine CHRC approval required.  School year position, Monday through Friday.

A la carte Payment Information

Elementary Schools: Money is collected for the week each Monday or the first day of the week. If payment is made by check, the check should be made payable to the school where your child attends. Families are expected to pay promptly for milk.

Middle Schools & Bangor High: Students pay cash in line daily or they may pay for a la carte in advance. Charging is a la carte is not allowed.

Meal applications will be available and strongly encouraged to be completed at BHS, Cohen and Mary Snow Schools.  Socio-economic forms will be available and strongly encouraged to be completed at Doughty, Fairmount, Downeast, Fruit Street, Fourteenth Street, Abe Lincoln and Vine Street Schools.

Bangor Schools Food Service Program is administered by a registered/licensed dietitian to offer Bangor students K-12 a variety of foods while considering dietary guidelines.   We serve all whole grains, along with dark green and orange vegetables and legumes.  Recipes have been revised to lower total fat, sugar and sodium with our meals providing less than 10% of saturated fat.  The Bangor School Department also participates in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program sponsored by the USDA.

Each menu offers a minimum of:

• 2 servings of fruit/vegetable

• 1 serving of meat/meat alternate (i.e. cheese)

• 1 serving of bread/bread alternate (i.e. pasta)

• 1 serving of milk (skim, lowfat, or chocolate)

Students with medical dietary restrictions or allergies should present the food service staff at their school with a doctor’s note. For further information about Bangor Schools Food Service program, contact the Food Services office at (207) 992-5532.
