Last week, the Maine Association of Computer Technology Educators (ACTEM) proudly announced that Sarah Cousins, music teacher at James F. Doughty School, had been named the winner of the prestigious 2025 ACTEM ACHIEVE Award. This recognition honors educators who have made significant contributions to integrating technology into their teaching practices.
Recognized for consistently demonstrating a commitment to enhancing her students' learning experiences through innovative use of technology, Mrs. Cousins stands out in the field of music education. From incorporating digital composition tools to utilizing online platforms for collaborative projects, her approach has inspired both students and fellow teachers alike. “During the pandemic, we faced many challenges, but it also opened up new avenues for creativity. Music technology became more accessible than ever, allowing my students to explore digital tools and collaborate in ways we never imagined,” said Cousins.
“Sarah’s passion for music and technology is evident in everything she does,” said Principal Sam Moring. “Her ability to engage students and foster their creativity is remarkable. We are thrilled that she is being recognized on such a significant platform.”
The ACTEM ACHIEVE Award is given annually to a select group of educators who exemplify excellence in technology integration within their curriculum. Recipients are chosen based on their ability to enhance student learning, promote collaboration, and share their knowledge with others in the educational community.
Cousins expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, “I am incredibly honored to be recognized by ACTEM. This award is a reflection of the hard work my students put into their music education every day.”
The award ceremony will take place at the annual ACTEM conference in October held in Augusta.
