Congratulations to BHS French teacher Marisue Schuiling, who was the 2026 recipient of Educators for a Multilingual Maine’s Sister Solange Lifetime Achievement Award. Sister Solange, a Lewiston native, dedicated her life to advancing world languages in Maine.
Marisue Shuiling’s career has been defined by excellence, steady leadership, and a genuine devotion to students and to world language instruction. Over decades, she has taught across middle school, high school, and post-secondary levels, producing strong student outcomes. Yet her impact extends far beyond test scores—she is known for the relationships she builds with students and colleagues.
Many former students return to her classroom to speak and mentor current learners. Their continued engagement reflects the lasting influence of her teaching and the cultural and language pathways she helped them discover beyond high school. As a colleague, Marisue has also helped shape a department culture grounded in shared support, collegial dialogue, and mutual respect built through consistency, trust, and effective leadership.
Congratulations on this well-deserved award.

Congratulations to Jasmine Jurobevo, who was recognized as Educators for a Multilingual Maine's Student of the Year. Jasmine speaks English, Russian, Uzbek, and now Spanish. At Bangor High School, she uses her languages to build community: she tutors multilingual learners in science and math and helps organize the World Language Club. Alongside her language commitment, she is deeply engaged in STEM and co-founded HealthWave, a student-led health and wellness initiative. She embodies EMME’s ideals and is an outstanding leader.

Today at JFDS, we held a "Spring Into the Arts" expo led by Mrs. Cousins, Mr. Gebhart, and Mrs. Harvey. Students chose three hands-on sessions from a lineup across visual arts, music, MLTI, theater, and dance. Highlights included a jazz big band, Bangor High percussion ensemble, brass & woodwind quintets, a Maine Savings Amphitheatre talk, theater improv, pet portrait drawing, graphic design, hip hop, swing, Irish step dance, and so much more!
A giant thank-you to the community volunteers who shared their time and talent and helped show our students what a future in the arts can look like!

"I was so proud of the progress all of the students made over the course of the year. They truly saved their best performance for when it mattered most! Watching them perfect their craft and have fun while doing it reminds me why I do what I do." Mr. Gebhart
